Marketing Operations Manager at Marketing Lounge Partnership

How did you get into marketing?

I actually started for a magazine, in University so I did an internship, where I got involved in content, websites, that type of thing. From there, I got a job in PR and marketing. At the minute my role is pretty much everything to do with marketing for MLP. So I manage our internal and external marketing.

What made you want to start the apprenticeship?

When I got approached about the apprenticeship, I was a bit confused because I already did marketing, and I didn’t know that people that went to university could do an apprenticeship. It was something I was really interested in, something I could develop my own skillsets in. I wanted to learn about analytics and data and I knew that was covered in the apprenticeship. Then upon doing the apprenticeship, I’m on a course with people that are lawyers, work in recruitment, pretty much anything so it’s show the value of the apprenticeship, and that anyone can do it. It’s always good to learn something new and develop your skillset so it was definitely a go from me.

How do you find the apprenticeship on a day-to-day level?

On a day-to-day level, the apprenticeship works really well for me. It actually keeps me on my toes a little – I think you can become quite settled but I’m always learning something new.

How did you feel before you started the apprenticeship?

I didn’t understand exactly what an apprenticeship was or how it worked, but School of Marketing have been so helpful in guiding me through the process, talking to me about how it works and I’ve had great pastoral care from School of Marketing to help make this transition into doing an apprenticeship really straightforward and really easy.

What has been your favourite part about the apprenticeship so far?

We recently launched our new website in January and School of Marketing has really helped me with the analytical side of everything. I can now look at demographics, I can look at timings and everything to do with our website. It’s really helpful and I can actually report back to our key stakeholders now.

What advice would you give to those that are nervous about starting the apprenticeship?

If you are on the fence or not sure about doing the apprenticeship, I’d say just do it. It’s not hard, the tutors are amazing, they’re really helpful as well, so it’s not something you should be “um-ing” and “r-ing” about. It’s interesting, it’s fun, you can do it on the job so it’s not like you won’t have time to do it. I think it’s good to always get certification, and always be learning something new. Marketing is always evolving and changing, so I think for me it’s always keeping up to date with marketing and keeping my skillset strong, and knowing the best practises.
